The individuals who have looked into the matter believe that the strength of those toys is not such to have been able to cause the eye irritations that occurred with the chief warrant officer and the sergeant.

• DoD News Briefing , November 3, 1998 -- On the 24th of October there was a helicopter that was, the crew of the helicopter that was involved in this included a chief warrant officer who was the pilot and a sergeant who was an air crewman. They reported eye irritations as a result of an incident involving a laser that came from a residential area.
